Make it a DIY holiday season with the family

Ever since I can remember, my girls have over the years provided me with DIY gifts and ornaments that they made during their time in school. For me, these were the most precious gifts; especially the ornaments since we still to this day add them every year to our Christmas tree! This is a puzzle piece ornament that my youngest daughter made for my husband and I back when she was in the second grade!

If you’ve been following me for awhile, then you know that I’m no stranger to DIY projects.  From recycled wood projects, to Montessori activities for kids, to photo holders, I love creating projects and the feeling of accomplishment when I’ve completed a project! DIY projects allow you to add some of your personality and creativity to them that you may not get when you purchase an item from a store.

For me, this is the perfect year to make it a DIY one; with JoAnn Stores by your side. From crafts, to decorations, to fabric, they are your go to place for you and your family to gather supplies for all of your DIY projects!

DIY Twisted Paper craft ornaments

JoAnn Stores has all you  need to create your own DIY craft ornaments! Simply visit your local store or visit their app to get all the necessary supplies.

Supplies needed:

  • cardstock in assorted colors and patterns
  • craft scissors
  • plastic ornaments
  • hot glue gun
  • hot glue sticks
  • spray bottles

Step 1:

Choose your paper combination from the paper selection

Step 2:

Using your craft scissors, cut the paper into one inch strips

Step 3:

Fill your spray bottle with water. One at a time, take your paper strips and spray them with water. Not too much water, just enough to dampen the paper

Step 4:

Twist each paper strip, being careful not to rip or tear the paper strips

Step 5:

Using your hot glue gun, glue each twisted paper strip onto your ornament. Try to cover the ornament entirely so that you do not see any of the ornament underneath

Step 6:

Continue to glue the twisted paper slips onto the entire ornament until complete. There you have it…a twisted paper ornament!

Turn this…
