Lose 20 pounds by using these 3 simple things…EVERYDAY
I did it…and you can too!
Body image and weight are topics that are constantly on our minds and are embedded in almost every aspect of our lives. Television ads, social media, and magazines are always advertising products that are related to your health, weight, and image. I have never been a health nut; I ate pretty much whatever and never really was an active person. I also have been happy with my body, weight, and image; and have always been pretty confident in who I am. I could easily cut back on certain foods, eat :healthier” for a week, and lose five to eight pounds with no sweat. Weight loss and health were not an huge aspect of my life when I was younger, but I didn’t have problems if I needed to lose a little bit of weight for a special event or trip. Boy was I in for the shock of my life!
There’s this thing that no one tells you about when you’re young…getting older can sometimes SUCK! HAHA!! Now that I am 40, I have struggled to lose weight. I actually starting noticing this struggle around 35; the simple things I did to lose weight in my 20’s and early 30’s just weren’t working anymore. Eating healthier and cutting back on certain foods was not the go to plan anymore. I knew that I had gained weight, but had no idea how much. I also tried to ignore the fact that some of my clothes just didn’t fit the same or at all. Then back in February 2017, I took a picture with friends and realized how different I looked…I knew that from that day on, I needed to develop a plan to start eating healthy and exercising. Now I by no means wanted to do anything drastic, I just wanted to get to a healthy weight that I felt comfortable with. Against my better judgement, I asked my husband to but a scale so I could figure out my starting point and my end goal. HOLY SMOKES, that was a horrible idea! I had no idea that I had gained as much weight as I had…I will spare you all the boring details, plus I am convinced that all scales are broken! 🙂

How the journey began…
I researched and looked into what I could do to get healthy and introduce some exercise into my life. I am one of those people who don’t really enjoy going to an actual gym, it just doesn’t interest me. So for a few months, I looked into other types of exercise. While I did my research, I was eating good for lunch, eating smaller dinner portions and was walking 2 days a week. Not much, but it was a start. I was periodically checking my weight, but noticed no change. I was sad and felt defeated. I decided to kick this plan in to high gear. I looked into other forms of exercising and found that yoga could be my forte. I decided to try out yoga, and since I had dabbled in “teaching” a few yoga poses to my class, I thought that it could be fun. I also knew that I would need a partner in crime to keep me accountable and to make it fun, so I put a post on my Facebook page asking if anyone knew of any yoga classes that were good. One of my dear friends reached out, and we went to trial yoga class…and LOVED it! That was a year ago, and I am so glad I made the decision to go to that trial class, I am absolutely obsessed with yoga!
Unfortunately, exercise was not enough…
So for about 6 months, I was going to yoga two days a week for an hour each time, still eating a healthy lunch, and smaller dinner portions. I was sure that I the weight was just falling off; I felt better I was nailing some of the difficult yoga poses and getting stronger, but that number on the scale WOULD NOT budge! It was so frustrating!!! I decided that I needed to up the ante. Back to the drawing board. I was on my natural health journey, so I wanted to find something that complimented and worked with my new found love. I found that having a healthy gut was important in aiding in weight loss and was good for your overall health. I found that probiotics are live bacteria (the good kind) that are good for your health; especially your digestive system (your gut). Eating foods that have probiotics in them or taking probiotic supplements can naturally help with weight loss. I also found that natural supplements could also benefit me in my journey.
All the while, I had been sharing with my yoga buddy my struggles, and she informed me of the products that she was using to help her in her journey to healthy living. She uses doTerra Essential Oils weight loss products along with the oils. I had already known of the benefits of using doTerra Essential Oils; I had been diffusing many of the oils in my classroom to help boost focus & concentration. Sounds crazy, but yes, it actually works! You can read more about how using essential oils helps with focus and concentration here. I decided to give it a shot; besides, what else did I have to lose? If it didn’t work, I’d go back to researching other ideas or products. But what if it DID work?
Obviously from the title of this post, you know that it worked!! I wouldn’t be sharing this with you if it didn’t, now would I? I found a combination of all these things that actually works and has helped me lose 20lbs already! Wooohooo!! Are you dying to find out what I did everyday to help me in the process? I bet you are!
Losing weight is all about your mindset…check out how these 11 smart & easy habits can help you on your weight loss journey!
Using these 3 things everyday helped me lose 20lbs!
1. The first thing I did was I starting adding Lemon Essential Oil and Slim & Sassy Essential Oil to my water everyday. I am not a big water drinker, but adding these oils to it made it taste good and it was helping me lose weight! Score!
Lemon is a single oil. It has many primary benefits; one of its benefits is that it naturally cleanses the body and aids in digestion*.
Slim & Sassy is a metabolic blend of grapefruit peel, lemon peel, peppermint plant, ginger root, & cinnamon bark essential oils. Its primary benefits are to promote healthy metabolism* and to help with hunger cravings*.
I put about 2 to 3 drops of each oil in my water and consume daily. For more information on purchasing doTERRA Essential Oils either retail or wholesale, please visit my site here.

2. The next thing I did was begin taking the weight loss management shakes from doTerra. The Slim & Sassy TrimShake comes in three flavors; Vanilla, Chocolate and Orange Cream. I opted for the Orange Cream, and when mixed with a banana, it tastes like an Orange Julius shake! Yummy! I use the shake for my breakfast; a spoonful of the shake mix, half a banana, a spoonful of the Greek Gods Greek Yogurt, about 1/2 cup of 1% milk add ice and blend. It fills me up for about 2 to 3 hours. **UPDATED TO ADD…doTERRA has discontinued the Orange Cream shake flavor; I know bummer! They do have Vanilla and Chocolate, that are just as yummy!
3. The other thing I did was start taking the dietary supplements that doTERRA offers. You can take three to five of the Slim & Sassy Metabolic Blend Softgels throughout the day. I normally take one to two softgels with a meal or snack, so that it helps with my metabolism and digestion. The softgels make them easy to take, and are super convenient!
The results are in…
I added these 3 products to my daily routine along with upping my yoga practice. I practice yoga anywhere from two to five days a week, and I also added yogurt with probiotics in it. I literally eat and continue to eat this yogurt everyday. I eat it with granola, and sometimes add blueberries to it as well. Can we say “best snack EVER!” It also is crazy healthy, so I never get tired of it. It took some researching, but I particularly have fallen in love with The Greek Gods Greek Yogurt Traditional Plain. They have different flavors, but I prefer plain. Also, there are many yogurt brands out there, and many don’t have probiotics in them, so just be sure that you check the ingredients before purchasing.
I have also cut back on consuming large amounts of bread and desserts, and I have managed to lose 20lbs! My goal is to lose about five to ten more pounds, and continue to supplement my diet with the above listed products. I have committed to a healthier mind and body, and I have found a way that works great for me. I am very proud and excited to be able to share my health journey with you. Even after I reach my goal, I will continue to implement these practices on a regular basis. I am committed to being the best me I can be!

Thanks for the great tips! I love essential oils and will try it in my water as suggested since I never drink enough. And I want to start probiotics too. Really nice post!
You’re very welcome Linda! I’m not a big water drinker either, and now that I add the essential oils to it, I drink alot more water.????
I’ve been wanting to make healthier choices and lose some weight as well. I always love reading what other people are doing!
I’m another person who doesn’t exactly love water. I’ll give the lemon a try and see if it helps. I love essential oils!
Angela, trust me, it tastes yummy! I love essential oils too!
Hi Anitra,
How long did it take you to lose the 20 lbs.? I am struggling with my weight, too. I’m going to try the Trimshake and be more consistent with adding oils to my water. Thank you!
Hi Charity! It took probably about a month with being consistent in eating well, doing yoga and using the oils and shakes. Everyone is different, so keep that in mind. Good luck!
I would never have thought essential oils could help you lose weight. That’s awesome!
Those are such great tips! Congrats on your weight loss. That’s amazing. I love putting lemon essential oil in my water. That shake mix sounds delicious!
Glad you found something that worked so well for you! It is such a shock after 40!!
Congratulations! I also love plain Greek yogurt!
Thanks Ashley!
I’ve been adding the lemon and slim and sassy to my water lately – I haven’t been too consistent. I haven’t tried the shakes yet. Sound good.
#WanderingWednesday
Lori, yes, being consistent can sometimes be difficult
I love essential oils (and DoTerra!) I’ve been wanting to try some of the supplements (my daughter is an affiliate). Going to have to get on it!
Wow! sounds like the perfect mix of exercise oils and supplements!
Love these tips!!!
Great Tips…lord knows I need to lose a few pounds but gets really hard when you have small children and work full-time.
Thank you for sharing your tips! I have heard many great benefits with essential oils and have yet to start looking into them. Now I have a reason to.
I’m in the same spot right now. Been dieting for years and thought I knew what I was doing, but now that I’m in my 30’s, it’s just not coming off. I’m putting on muscle but not losing weight. I definitely want to try the oils that you mentioned to start. It definitely is about controlling hunger. If you can stay full then you just have to consciously not eat out of boredom.
Too many people believe that fitness and health is created and maintained solely in the gym, when really it’s the decisions that we make daily in the kitchen that have a much bigger impact on whether or not we’re hitting our goals! Thanks for sharing
Congratulations on your weight loss! Thanks for sharing the things you used to hit your goal. I’ve never hear of Trim Shake before. Does it leave a powder-y after taste?
Hi Katherine, thankfully it does not leave a powdery after taste. That’s why I like it!
Wow, 20 lbs, that’s awesome! I didn’t know essential oils could help with weight loss, that’s something I learned today! Thanks for sharing what worked for you.
Great tips about weight loss. Going to check if it’s gonna work on me, will be good to lose some pounds this summer.
Do you mix the essential oils with anything before adding them to water seeing as the oils don’t actually mix with the water?
Hi Lisa! No, I just mix everything all together. Every time before use, I give the mixture a little shake. Hope this helps!
Thank you for this info:) exactly what I needed
I can really relate to this! I have a couple of oils, but not the ones you mentioned. I’m totally looking into them now.
Congrats! I didn’t know essential oils could help with weight loss. And that Orange Julius smoothie sounds amazing…
I think I need to try the slim and sassy. It sounds like it would make the water taste really good. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thank you for your article! It’s helpful to read about new ways to work towards a healthier body in a unique way.
Never heard of lemon essential oil before. Thanks for sharing this info. I might try them one day
Hi, Anitra at 35 i noticed the same body habits. I could not lose weight as quickly any more and after having my third children at 38, it has gone even more down hill. I am 60lbs over weight. Thanks for these tips
Great tips! You’re inspiring me to cut down on bread and desserts! 🙂
