Are you a BUSY mom?
Are you looking for simple, easy ways to be more productive every day?
Need a daily routine that will help you start your day off the right way?
Are you a morning person?
I know…mornings suck!  Being a wife and working mom, I know how hard it it is to get up and get going every morning. Work at home moms, I know you agree with me too! Trying to do it all can slowly take its toll on us moms, leading to stress filled days and even nights. I know first hand how that can feel! No one said that being a mom was going to be easy, and I’m here to help you busy stressful mamas catch a breath and take a breather!
There is always something for you to do, somewhere for you to be, somewhere to take the kids. Being everything and everywhere at once can certainly take a toll on you physically, mentally, and emotionally. Back when my girls were younger, moms with older kids would constantly tell me that things would get easier once they were older. Now that they are older, I’m here to tell you that is a lie!!! HAHA!!! Sorry to burst your bubble and rain on your parade… but it is mot a cake walk once your children are teens and young adults. They may not need you as much, but you definitely are not any less stressed or busy; you’re just busy in a different way. I know; I had no right to crush your hopes and dreams, but let’s face it, I think deep down you already knew the truth!
1. Wake up
Well this one probably seems obvious! What I mean by this is allow yourself time to wake up. If at all possible, give yourself 2 to 5 minutes to fully wake up. After your alarm goes off, or your kids come in and jump on you and wake you up, lie there for as long as you can and wake up. Stretch, take deep breaths, and allow yourself to take in the new day.
Be mindful of your arms, legs, and breathing; being mindful for just a few minutes in the morning can set the tone for how the rest of your day goes! Studies have shown that mindful breathing reduces negative emotions and reduces stress. There are many other benefits to practicing mindfulness. You can practice mindful breathing and other mindful exercises together as a family! Find some activities in the post Family friendly activities & resources to promote mindfulness.
Giving yourself a little time to just wake up will surely get your day off to a great start, as well as hopefully reduce some of the stress!
2. Work out
Believe it or not, working out in the morning can be a great way to have a productive day and relieve stress. Having a workout plan and routine can definitely help calm your mind and body. You can choose to go for a run, cardio, weight training, or going to the gym. Like most busy moms I know, I don’t have much time to in my day to add a fitness routine to my day. That’s why I decided that I needed to find some a quick and easy way to incorporate working out a part of my daily routine.
My workout routine consists of a daily yoga practice. Practicing yoga has many benefits, and just a short yoga practice of even 5 to 10 minutes can be so beneficial! This is a perfect way for busy moms to be able to add a fitness routine to their busy! Are you interested in incorporating a yoga practice into your daily routine and workout? Read all about what you need to practice yoga at home in my post, 5 must have items for yoga at home.
3. Prioritize tasks
If you’re a mom, then you know that EVERYTHING is considered important, and that’s the problem! It can be overwhelming when every task, errand, or your never ending to do list is considered to be equally important. That can definitely lead to a very stressful day; week; month; and life! To eliminate some of the pressure of everything being “important”, it can be beneficial to prioritize the tasks, errands, and items on your to do list. Try to determine which things are the most important and prioritize them. If something can be put off for later on in the week or month, do it. Prioritizing tasks can alleviate some of the stress and help you have a productive day, which in turn can lead to a productive week!
4. Delegate
A good way to relieve some of the stress of the day is to delegate tasks. Delegate…what does that even mean? If you’re anything like me, I would rather do whatever needs to be done rather than explaining how to do it. I would rather just overwhelm myself with a billion things rather than take the time to show or tell someone how and what needs to be done. I did this for years, and it slowly became too much for me. Nothing is worth losing your sanity over; if there is a task that can be delegated to someone else, let them do it! Will it be done to your satisfaction; probably not, but at least there is one less thing on your to do list. Sometimes you just have to L.I.G. It…Let. It Go. Yes, just like the Frozen song says! Delegating tasks either the night before or first thing before your day starts can get your day off to a very productive start!
5. Have a plan
A great way to start your day off on a great note is to have a plan! Taking a moment to write down and develop a daily plan can help you have a productive day. Writing down your daily goals, things you are grateful for and plan of action will definitely reduce some of the stress from your day. I created a Mom’s Gratitude Journal Page that is great for just this! You can print out as many as you like and use them daily to develop a plan of action for a productive day! Get your FREE Mom’s Gratitude Journal Page now!
What to take from this
What should you take from this? Develop a routine that works for you. Do things that fit into your schedule and daily life; find things that work for your individual situation. Just develop a system, that’s the most important thing to take from this! Do things that enable you to relieve your stress, which in turn will lead to a productive day! That is what is most important and beneficial for you overall.
Do you have any tips that you do to relieve stress and start your day off productive? Please share them in the comments, I’d love to hear suggestions that work for you!
Be your best self and make everyday count!

I love the idea of writing down a daily plan. I am a task person and with two young kids, I feel I’m constantly behind. This would be a great way to prioritize and see what needs done and in what order. I love it.
Thanks Judy! My goal with this post was to include practical ideas that I use myself and that work. Glad you liked it!
Having a plan is a great one. And then having the wisdom to deviate when necessary! 🙂
I want to get back to working out in the morning, even if just for a short time! It really helped me be more productive!
Great post. I do my best to fully wake up in the morning. I start off by making tea and having a cuddle with my dog! It’s really nice 🙂 Then the busy day starts! I do write down my plan for the day too which helps.
Lol i totally laughed at your first one…but that is sometimes the hardest thing to do! My favorite is delegating; I just started doing that. I was like, wait! My kids are old enough to help sort the laundry…best decision EVER!
Unfortunately, my younger years were pretty much dominated by the fact that I had undiagnosed type 2 bipolar disorder. My life and my son’s life would have been better if I had understood the workings of this psychological aberration.
I think that women have a lot of pressure on us to be perfect, and the sooner we learn that nobody’s perfect, the better off we are. For instance, so what if you look like an unmade bed when you drop your kids off at school–at least you got them there!
I’d like to start doing yoga again. I have a lot of physical issues which mean that I can’t exercise strenuously. I’m not the most flexible person, but a simple yoga routine sounds like something I might enjoy.
This is a great post and honestly the working out part is what I really need to be working on !! Thanks for sharing !!
Love these suggestions, especially the first one to give yourself time to wake up. I noticed that if my days start hectic, they tend to stay hectic. Like on the morning when I get woken up by my son running into the master bedroom and whispering loud: “I gotta poo!!!!!” That just sends an immediate jolt of “wake up and run” through me. The rest of those days usually seems hurried and disjointed. Maybe getting a workout would help!!! 🙂
Great advice! I really like how you say to give yourself a few minutes to wake up. It is hard to just hop out of bed! I also like to have a plan.. I do mine the night before and even mentally not what we are having for breakfast.. even if it is just cereal lol. This helps me because the fewer decisions I have to make in the morning the better my day goes!
All great suggestions. It was a good reminder for me that when I was doing my workout in the morning, I actually felt better about the day. I’m going to try to move it back to mornings. It is hard to get it all together some days.
I love this. I’m a stay at home mom and I often find myself overwhelmed with everything I have to do. I’m definitely going to try better and incorporate these into my life
This is a great routine!!!
These tips are great! I love having a to-do list of my top 5 things to get done during the day so I don’t get overwhelmed by tasks.
These are all great tips! Thank you for sharing!
I can totally relate to this! And yes, my mornings and days go so much better when I can plan! It’s also the best time to exercise! I lose motivation later in the day!
Ugh you are so right, mornings do suck. LOL. It’s the fact that laying in bed before the feet even hit the ground everything that lays ahead hits you over the head like a brick. The strongest desire to say, “F it all” and roll over and go back to sleep is not even a considerable thought. But, you also are right have a plan, work-out, start the day with the most positive things you can do before allowing everything to set in helps in tremendous ways! I’m sure you rock this thing called life!
[…] 5 Things Moms Should Do Every Morning to Have a Productive Day with Less Stress […]
I used to listen to this affirmation/high vibe video that I found on YouTube in the morning. It made a world of difference starting my day. I used to rush my kids out the door, being mad and fussing. When I found this, after a few times listening, I was much calmer. My kids even noticed the difference in my attitude.
Well….1 out of 5 isn’t bad, right? LOL (I’ve mastered “waking up”). I will say I’m pretty good during the school year, I’m a teacher, at being productive. But summer time? I finished reading a novel today and made lunch. That’s as good as it gets. ha!
Omg, this speaks to my soul! I’ve been practicing this for a while and it’s truly helped me overcome so much mom anxiety, but I have friends who don’t want to take my word for it! Knowing there’s someone out there who gets it is so refreshing!
These are great suggestions not only for moms but for anyone who wants to have a productive day. Thanks!
Number 1 is an absolute MUST for me 😂. Seriously though, it’s amazing how taking those 5 minutes to wake up change the trajectory of my day. It’s a quick thing I can do to remind myself that I’m a person, not a vending machine, cook, chauffeur, teacher, nurse, or any of the other hats I’m asked to wear in a single day. Great read! Thanks for sharing!
I love that these tips are realistic! There’s a lot of tips out there but these actually seem both helpful and doable!
These are great tips! Even though I am not a morning person, I try to get up just before everyone else so that I have a few moments to myself every day.
These are incredible tips even though we are not morning people. We need to incorporate a work out in our routine. Thank you for sharing.
Amazing tips. Making a plan is something we need to do.
